image Golf holidays in Spain are still proving popular despite the economic downturn, it has been revealed.

According to Typically Spanish, the 116 courses in the Andalucia region helped to generate €500 million (£421 million) during 2009.

"Last year saw more than 360,000 people take to the greens of the region where golf now gives jobs to more than 4,400," the publication noted.

The figures were provided earlier this week by regional councillor for tourism, trade and sport Luciano Alonso.

People hoping to take a golf holiday in Spain this summer may wish to consider a break at La Manga Club.

The resort basks in sunshine for over 300 days a year, making it the perfect destination for sports enthusiasts.

La Manga Club is home to three championship golf courses, as well as an extensive range of practice facilities, including a driving range, crazy golf area, chipping green and bunker.
