image Brits are keen to spend more quality time with their loved ones, according to new research.

A survey carried out by Merlin Entertainment revealed that 85 per cent of people would like to do more with their family and friends.

Of those polled, 47 per cent said the best thing about taking a group trip or holiday is having the chance to be with their loved ones.

Commenting on the findings, psychologist Carey Cooper said: "In difficult economic times, it is great to see that the family still plays an important role in meeting people's social needs and that people want to spend more time with their family members."

She suggested that when times get tough, it is important to invest in your family through activities, days out and holidays in Spain and elsewhere.

Research published this week by comparison site Gocompare.com revealed that an increasing number of British families are planning to take "playcations" this year and enjoy pursuits such as scuba diving, climbing and cycling.
