image A third of people taking holidays to Spain and elsewhere to not protect their skin with sunscreen, it has been revealed.

According to research by sun care company Green People, 60 per cent of people between the ages of 16 and 24 expect to be burnt when they are abroad.

Charlotte Vohtz, a spokesperson for the organisation, said it is vital that people put their health first when jetting abroad.

"It is really important that you apply a generous amount of sunscreen (30ml to cover your body / one shot glass) every two hours you are in the sun," she explained.

According to Green People, holidaymakers should stay in the shade at midday, wear loose clothing and drink plenty of water throughout the day.

Speaking recently, Bevis Man of the British Skin Foundation said it is important that travellers protect themselves as nothing can be done once the skin has been burnt.
