Air France scales up in Copenhagen by adding two weekly non-stop flights to Marseille. This new service follows from the airline’s massive campaign to offer lower fares from its four main domestic provincial airports in France to a number of European cities.

Air France has long been planning to respond to the competition from the low cost carriers. These plans are now materialising by way of 13 nonstop routes from Marseille, Nice, Toulouse and Bordeaux.

At Copenhagen, the people behind Air Sales & Route Development are proud that they have succeeded in becoming a part of this big venture from Air France.

“With the new non-stop service, Marseille will attract leisure and business passengers with an easy, convenient and inexpensive route to France’s second-largest city and to Provence. People will no longer have to connect in Paris, and that is very attractive,” said Sarah Frances Procter, Route Development Manager at Copenhagen Airports A/S.

New union agreement paving the way for investment

The condition for this major venture by Air France was a 15% cost reduction through a new union agreement with its airborne crew regarding working hours, flight crew size, and bonus. The new union agreement is now in place, and Air France is therefore investing in additional Airbus 320s.

Air France’s CEO has told the French press that this new venture will only be sustainable through ”optimal use of the airline’s resources in the air and on the ground all day."

Air France expects to attract an additional 4.5 million passengers by offering the seats at a one-way fare starting at EUR 50 including taxes. And that includes the normal level of service of one free piece of baggage per passenger, free check-in and seat selection and free newspapers and snacks on board.

The non-stop service to Marseille will open in October with flights departing from Copenhagen on Saturdays at 4:30 p.m. and on Sundays at 9:05 a.m.
